Oregon Workshop Columbia River Gorge

Recently I attended a Landscape Photography workshop at the Columbia River Gorge. It was such a great time! We shot from sunrise to sunset for five days. I got to meet some great people along the way. The first thing I learned was not to bring a cheap tripod from Amazon. When shooting in rivers and high speed having a heavy duty tripod is essential! They recommended quite a few brands depending on price point 1.  Really Right Stuff 2. Getzo 3. Mefoto.

Second lesson bring water proof everything! I  ended up buying some water proof pants, the mist from the waterfalls will drench you in a matter of minutes. Lesson 3 when shooting falls you can never have enough lens wipes! With all the mist from the falls you wants some in both pockets.

This was such a great experience. We can all consider ourselves pros until we get in a group full of counterparts in the industry. You start to realize how much you still have to learn!

Fun In The Snow!

Senior Portrait season is here! This morning Tyler and I went out on a cold windy day to get some winter shots of him in the snow. It was such a fun morning. I clumsily fell in a snow ditch once but hey I got the shot I wanted. Although the wind fought us we ended up with some great s hots.

Welcome To KathrynDunlap.com

Hi I’m Kathryn but I go by Katie. I’m a self taught free lance photographer. I’ve been taking photos since before I can remember. It’s my passion in life. Looking at a photo for me is like reading a book, it tells a story. As a photographer, I analyze a photo, the light in it, the composition and the story it tells. That’s why I love photography, no matter how hard you try you can never take the exact same picture twice, and each picture you take can say a thousand words. I’m here to capture life in all it’s real raw imperfections. To capture you and your story.
My husband and I live on a hay and cattle ranch where our days are spent outdoors, in the dirt on horseback. It’s not uncommon for me to stop right in the middle of what we’re doing on the ranch due to a good photo opportunity. Whether its a perfect sunset or the cows in just the right place, I consider it a challenge to capture that perfect shot. I prefer to take candid lifestyle moments rather than poses.
